ABOUT THE CHOIR
We welcome boys and girls aged 7-18, who are recruited from schools in the Stourbridge area and further afield. They receive free singing tuition from professional musicians, and have a great deal of fun through a busy programme of workshops, rehearsals, services, concerts and other performances. One of the highlights of the year is our annual carol service: held by candlelight, the church is usually full to capacity. The boys and girls sing as separate
choirs, sometimes on their own, sometimes supported by the 'back row' of
adult singers. For major events, boys, girls, and adults sing
together. Many of our former singers (and young organists) have gone on to succeed in their careers: music, investment banking, law, and journalism, to name but a few. Our choir succeeds on teamwork, self-discipline, and the ability to get on with others. These valuable 'skills for life' give our members a head start in both life and work. There is a strong social dimension to the choir. Singers work hard, but they also play hard, with day trips away at least once a term (laserquesting, ten-pin bowling, and much more). There is a choir club which meets weekly and provides boys and girls with a chance to socialise and enjoy games together alongside the singing. You can find out more about joining the choir in the join the choir section. You can also hear the choir singing Stanford in C and Joubert's "Torches". |
