JOIN THE CHOIR

Ordinary young people. Doing extraordinary things. That is what St Thomas' Choir is all about.

The choir sings to a very high standard, and has performed at Wells Cathedral, Birmingham Cathedral, St Mary's Warwick, Birmingham Symphony Hall and many other incredible venues. Jon Payne, Director of Music at St Thomas', has worked with young people in youth and church choirs for twenty years, and has a national reputation for the quality of his work. A number of his choirs have achieved success in the BBC Choir of the Year and other competitions. He firmly believes that anyone, with guidance and enthusiasm, can learn to sing well.

Membership of the choir is open to boys and girls aged 7-18. You don't need to be able to read music or play an instrument: just be prepared to learn and have fun!

The choir meets on Tuesdays and Fridays, and performs twice on Sundays. However, recognising the importance of family life in a busy world, our singing responsibilities are divided between the boys, girls and adults, so there is plenty of opportunity for 'time off' in our schedule too! On average, the boys sing for five services/performances a month, and the girls sing for two or three.

Activities broadly follow school term-times, though we do stay on to sing for services on Christmas Day and Easter Day. The choir does not meet at all during August.

There are no auditions. We invite you to come to a workshop to watch/listen or to take part straight away. Your ability to fit in and make your voice blend with others will quickly become apparent!

As well as the singing, our choir club is popular with boys and girls, with games, food and drink.

Life as a member of St Thomas' Choir demands a certain level of commitment, yes, but we believe the rewards in terms of enjoyment, musical ability, and the 'skills for life' which membership of a choir teaches are invaluable - and many of our present and former choristers agree!
